Reasons to Enjoy the New Smyrna Beach Brewery
This micro-brewery first opened for business in January 2014, but co-owner Chris Coyle has been brewing for much longer than that. Chris and a friend first considered the idea of a brewery while camping in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, where they shared a taste of a local beer.
Chris learned the craft from experimenting with his own brews made in his garage, which he used to give out to friends for free. For years, friends, family, and acquaintances urged him to make that dream a reality. Finally he took a chance and opened the doors to New Smyrna Beach Brewing Co. in early of 2014 with a focus on beachy beers.
A visit to the New Smyrna Beach Brewery is one of the best things to do on Canal Street. From the taproom, get a unique glimpse into the beer making process. Seated in the 900-square foot taproom, guests can watch the equipment as it refines and ferments the very beer on draft. Occasionally, you may even get to see the brewer fill a keg with a newly finished batch of beer.
Types of Beers
Whether you’re a fan of hoppy IPAs or crave a smoother, darker brew like a stout, the New Smyrna Beach Brewery has a beer for you. The brewers tend to focus on light beers as many guests come in seeking solace from the heat in the form of a light, refreshing drink. The Shark Attack IPA is their signature brew, but the Coronado Beach Cream Ale and NSB OG Imperial IPA are also popular choices.
New Smyrna Beach Brewing Co. typically keeps five year-round drafts, five rotating taps, and a few guest brews for a total of 14 taps. Try a taste of the Disappearing Island Apricot ale or the light, refreshing Summer Storm Hefeweizen. Dark beer fans will love the Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter or the Old Fort Coffee Stout, brewed with organic coffee from the local Island Roasters Coffee Co.
