The DeLand Original Music Festival | November 4, 2017 | 1 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Located in the Historic Downtown DeLand District, the DeLand Original Music Festival is one of the largest independent music festivals in the Southeast. Twelve hours of music featuring genres like Rock, Blues, Folk, Americana, Jazz, Country, and even Metal join with more than 40 art displays and vendors to create an artistic and musical haven. It’s a great activity idea for your vacation!
Tour the Local Museums
DeLand is home to a few wonderful museums ranging from art to geology. Tour the Museum of Art – DeLand or the African American Museum of the Arts for wonderful displays of artistic prowess and beauty. For a scientific offering and one of the most popular DeLand attractions, visit the Gillespie Museum at Stetson University for a geological tour of the region both above and below sea level.
Hontoon Island State Park and Blue Spring State Park
One of the treasures of the DeLand area is Hontoon Island State Park. The park is located in the St. Johns River and is accessible by ferry, provided by the park. There, you’ll see evidence of Native American presence, as well as a variety of native species and creatures. Pack a picnic, then rent a canoe to explore some more while you’re there. The park also features a visitors center, grills, picnic tables, and fishing spots. Blue Spring State Park is one of the best places in the area to view manatees in their natural habitat. Enjoy the warm waters in the designated swimming season or head out on a canoe for a fishing trip! Lastly, you can take the self-guided tour of the Thursby house from the steamboat era, circa 1872.
